Protecting Your Domain Name Registration Info From Prying Eyes

While registering a domain name is usually a good thing, it can have some pitfalls. One of them is when your private domain name information becomes available to the internet community through the whois system.
Whois refers to a request for information regarding the domain name registrant, administrator, tech support person and billing contact. Each of these sections must be filled with valid name, address and email information. The problem is, this information is totally public and accessible by anyone with a connection to the internet. That means anyone that wants to send you spam can access your email information with ease.
The other reason why some people seek private domain name registrations is to avoid being tracked by the search engines. Why would someone worry about that? This would mainly apply to people who have registered multiple domains for the purpose of making money with them like with Google’s adsense program. They thought goes that a search engine could theoretically shut down all websites with the same contact information in it. This tactic is being disputed by others who argue that companies like Google have access to the main Registrar’s database of whois information and therefore bypass the private domain name registration services.
So how does it work? Simply put, another company will act like a proxy for you and put their information in your place while keeping your information available in their private database. You agree to a legal contract that officially allows the domain name registration company to act in your place. They in turn will usually offer to forward all official emails sent to them on behalf of the domain name owner.
If you care about privacy, registering your domain name with a private domain registration service is an excellent option. Don’t think though that you will never receive spam if you get a private registration. There are many other ways spammers can get your information. One of the most common is to scrape your website for email addresses.

BREAK THROUGH THE CLUTTER WITH AUDIO BANNERS

“A horse is a horse, of course, of course, his name is Mister Ed!” Do any of you remember that silly jingle from the television show?

That’s not really important anyway. What IS important is that Ed, the talking horse, was quite a phenomenon back in the 60′s. Ed talked, reasoned and displayed traits unlike any of his animal brethren.

There is a lesson here, of course. Millions of people watched Mr. Ed every week just because he WAS different. And that leads us right smack-dab into a discussion about your banner advertising campaigns.

Those poor maligned banners. Once the darlings of Internet advertisers, they’ve really been getting bad-rapped lately due to their failure to lure web surfers into clicking-thru and creating sales. But is it the fault of the banners or have they become so ubiquitous that the surfer hardly notices them? Why don’t we make those banners so inviting and entertaining that users won’t be able to click fast enough?

I think that content providers are too focused on consumers as “sets of eyeballs.” We need to look at these people first as users and, secondly, as members of our online audience. And audiences have come to expect advertising wrapped in a very entertaining package. An essential part of that package is streaming audio.

Streaming audio has become a whole new industry for the Web. As more and more people listen to music online and web-based radio, advertisers are taking notice. These listeners, fondly called “streamies,” are devoted Internet users and active online shoppers. They are a valuable audience as they’re 70 percent more likely to have made an online purchase than a non-streamie. Arbitron Internet Information Services says that streamies are quite ready to accept web advertising in exchange for free programming, and they’re more receptive and influential targets.

How can we begin to use these statistics to leverage the effectiveness of banner ads?

Java based audio presentations can be fully integrated into your banner advertising. Why Java based, you ask? Most important is the fact that no plug-in or complicated player installation is required on the part of the viewer. (The “impulse to click” is not thwarted by the user having to take additional actions.) The size of Java files are relatively small as well thereby minimizing the page load issue. And, because Java is cross platform, you can be comfortable knowing that the majority of visitors will be able to enjoy the presentation. Java is versatile and works well with almost any application.

What can be done with these banners? Audio can be synchronized with your banner images and text to deliver eye and ear pleasing messages. Slide shows can be placed within the banner. Relevant product information can be imparted quickly and effectively before the visitor is ever asked to click through to the website. Special offers and promotions can be referenced to entice the shopper. No longer are viewers merely spectators; they are active participants.

Interactive audio banners provide the consumer with the ability to listen to more detailed information and even to initiate the buying function directly from the banner itself. This really helps to capture that “impulse” buyer right at the time he’s most anxious to buy. Because it’s interactive, a web visitor can directly respond to it.

The power of audio should not be underestimated. People would still rather hear about something than spend time reading or sorting out passing images. Keep in mind that museums and other institutions have offered tours for years that are accompanied by audio scripts designed to educate the visitor yet allowing the eye to roam freely and absorb the creative on an individual basis.

Audio banners can also add a personal appeal to the visitor. Use the banner to tell a story about the product or service that invokes an emotional response. Talk about the product’s benefits to the consumer and how the product will improve his life/work/relationships. Use the banner to whet people’s appetites for additional information. Never lose sight of the fact that people make buying decisions based on emotional reasons and design your banner presentation accordingly.

It is far too early for any of us to dismiss the banner ad as an idea whose time has past. We have to step back, take an objective view, and start thinking about how we can make them more than just billboards.

As the Internet leaves its infancy and enters the “toddler” stage, we need to remind ourselves that we’re still dealing with a new medium. And that this new medium is still largely unexplored.

Pop-ups Versus Banner Ads: Which Is Better For Increased Website Traffic?

Everyone who uses the web knows that advertising is a huge part of the entire experience. The internet is full of advertising for every possible company and product you can imagine. Although many complain about the forms of advertising, there is not much difference in internet advertising and telemarketing phone calls to your home. The interesting thing is however that web users prefer to be annoyed by internet ads over unexpected phone calls. This acceptance of ads has created a breeding ground for millions of pop-ups and banner ads on the internet. Sites use them individually or together, but some still wonder which is better for increased website traffic. Consumers have offered a response, perhaps not verbally, but with statistics of effectiveness.

Pop-ups are typically seen as annoying advertisements. Those that include blinking lights can even be hazardous to some users with certain medical conditions. They have been considered the most hated form of web advertising available. With pop-ups being so annoying however, consumers may wonder why they are still being used so frequently. The truth is that pop-ups are terribly aggravating, but they are indeed effective overall. For some crazy reason, there are millions of people who actually utilize them when they appear on their screen. This is partially due to many sites using pop-up ads as an excuse and reason for offering free services to site users. They will state that they must use these forms of ads in order to offer the site for free. Users, who don’t want to pay, but still want to use the site, will likely accept the excuse without question.

The trouble with pop-up ads these days are that there are many programs to install on a computer that will not allow pop-ups through. This means that when a pop-up is meant to appear on your screen, your installed “pop-up blocker” program does not allow it to happen and instead blocks the advertisement from reaching you, the user. These programs are very effective most of the time and can cost advertisers a great deal of money if the ad is not reaching the intended target. Advertisers are now coming up with newly programmed pop-ups however that can bypass these “blocker” programs and still deliver the ads to your screen, whether you like it or not.

Banner ads began to appear on websites in response to the annoyance consumers felt from pop-ups. Advertisers thought that if banner ads were not as bothersome, they may offer even better results than the pop-up ads. Sites began sticking banner ads in every free area of their site. Upon doing so, they soon realized that although banner ads are not typically as bothersome as pop-ups, they are also not as effective. Users were less likely to utilize banner ads for their purpose. Many of the banner ads were perhaps not as noticeable as an aggressive pop-up ad right in the user’s line of vision. Some are off to the side of the screen and out of the direct eye contact.

Many users prefer banner ads when asked, because they claim they are easier on the eye and they are often unnoticeable. This may mean more comfortable use for the user, but it means something completely different to the advertiser. An advertiser wants their ad to be noticed, even at the user’s expense. They would rather annoy the user and get the ads noticed than the ads simply sit being unnoticed. In whole, advertisers were not seeing a large turnout with banner ads, and therefore many sites no longer use them for advertising purposes.

The answer to whether or not pop-ups or banner ads are best really lies with who you speak with. Consumers will likely tell you banner ads are much better than troublesome pop-ups. Advertisers however would tell you the exact opposite. They both have a place on the internet and their own group of “fans”. The conclusion is however that unless users completely boycott pop-ups in an extremely dramatic way, they will likely continue to replace banner ads. The power of the choice lies in the hands of the advertisers at this time and until users want to force them to change their ways, the advertisers will continue to support pop-ups over banner ads.

Printed Banners – The Modern Day Demand!

A well planned marketing gambit can take a business as far as is possible. Printed Banners are most suitable for extensive marketing and when the target audience is scattered over long distances. Print media has always been the best way to market whatever your business may have a need to advertise. Everyone knows the power of newspapers. The print media has reach to such remote places…even where all other marketing things fail to get through. This makes printed banners an important tool in the marketing business.

Some important things should be kept in mind while appointing a professional for your print media marketing needs. The first and the foremost thing for print medium is the ink. You should make sure that the ink which is used for printing the banners is not water based. This means that the ink would not wash away in rain. That will make your prints waterproof and they will last a long time in adverse conditions. But choosing the best ink is just a small part of successful banners. The content is the king.

So no matter how much better ink you use, if the content doesn’t appeal to people, all the marketing strategy would be in vain. If you order your banner prints in bulk, some companies may offer special deals and discounts on your purchase. For instance, there are two types of paper prints available. One is a glossy finish and the other one is a matte finish. But the best bet would be the vinyl PVC type printing.

This kind of printing is both reliable and versatile. Some offline print banner companies also provide you options for online flash banners. This is an added advantage because you get best of the both worlds by paying for a single product. An online flash banner mixed with an offline print banner is going to be a great marketing strategy and would attract both offline and online potential customers.

Auto Loans – Bad Credit Finance

Commercials and advertisements are everywhere that says that anyone can get a car regardless of how bad their credit is. Usually this is true, almost anyone can get a car loan but the terms of the loan can often make you find yourself in a rut that you didn’t anticipate. Besides the fact that you will likely need a much larger down payment in addition to a higher interest rate, your auto loan will very much resemble a traditional loan.

The down payment required can often be as much as half and the interest rates can be as high as 26%. This is dependent on which state you live in and exactly how bad your credit really is. Even with bad credit a person should never accept an interest rate that is more than about 18%. Another difference between those with good credit and those without is that people with good credit can often finance for as many as seven years. Those with bad credit will usually have to accept much shorter finance option such as two to four years.

If a person is given a chance to finance an auto with bad credit it is very important that the payments are made on time. This means that you will be establishing a good line of credit and the next time that you want a vehicle you will be offered better terms.

Unfortunately those with bad credit are often at the mercy of the lender and fall prey to some unsavory conditions. Lenders know this and some, especially those that deal in offering bad credit auto loans, have been known to abuse the system.

Mainly this is done by artificially inflating the price of the car and the interest rate too. An example of this would be for a lender to take a $4000 car and inflate the cost to lenders as an $8000 car. They would accept a $2000 down payment and finance the rest at as much as 26% interest. This forces the buyer to pay often as much as three times the price that they would pay for a car under normal conditions.

To protect yourself you must be armed with knowledge. Another thing for a buyer with bad credit to consider is that many times it is in the buyer’s best interest to go for the gold and try to buy a new car rather than a used one. Believe it or not, it may be easier for two reasons. One, there are better incentives offered by the manufacturers and secondly because the dealers are pressured to dump new cars all the time.

Use this information as part of your knowledge base so you always get the best auto financing, bad credit or not!

Marriage and Finances – What to Do Before You Say, I Do

When my husband and I got married, we were a bit surprised to find out just how much combined debt we each had. We had been dating for almost five years before we got married. We had kind of discussed finances and how we would do things but in all honesty; we had discussed the wedding budget and the finances of that big event a lot more than we discussed the finances of our other big event, namely the rest of our lives together!

Money and money management (or the lack thereof) is the biggest source of arguments and stress in a marriage (and one of the top five reasons for divorces). Of course, there are two sides to every issue and it falls to both partners in a relationship to seek answers and information in regards to their future spouse’s finances. A person who puts their head in the sand is as guilty as the person who didn’t disclose information in the first place. Here are a few things to work out before you walk down the aisle;

-Full disclosure- Surprising your new spouse with your debt load AFTER the wedding ceremony is unfair and can lead to hard feelings which will undoubtedly lead to arguments. Don’t forget that NOT asking about your future spouse’s finances makes your just as responsible. Sit down and share everything!

-Credit score- I recently heard a wonderful statement about your credit score. “Your credit score is your adult report card. It tells everyone how you manage your finances and possibly your life.” Credit scores are now reviewed by potential employers, insurance companies, lenders, cell phone companies (before they give you a contract) and utility suppliers. A bad credit score will mean you’re paying more for auto insurance, loans (if you can get one at all) and possibly stuck in a lousy job. Love doesn’t necessarily conquer all, especially when it comes to money! Both of you need to share your credit scores with each other and understand what ramifications a bad score will have on your financial relationship and future plans.

-Discuss who is going to handle paying the bills. Finding out three months into your marriage, when the electricity is turned off, that both of you thought the other was paying the bills (because you both hate doing it) isn’t a good way to start your relationship together. This does NOT mean that if your spouse will handle the bill paying that you can walk away and be in the dark! Both of you need to be fully aware of ALL the bills and everything that is coming into the household and everything going out. On the flip side, be aware of a spouse who wants complete control and doesn’t want you to “worry about a thing.” There are many couples who end up in bad situations because one person keeps financial secrets from the other (and managed to do it because they handled and controlled all the bills).

-Talk about your financial philosophies. Marriage counselors will tell you not to marry someone expecting to change them. In addition, opposites may attract in many ways but when it comes to finances, that isn’t generally true. A married hardcore saver and hardcore spender will quickly realize that they’ve got serious issues.

-Financial goals. Talk about where both of you want to be, financially, in 10, 20 or 30 years. This can tie in with your financial philosophies as well. Talk about how you think you might accomplish those goals, too. Finding out that your spouse wants to retire early and thinks the best way to accomplish this is to never buy a house or have kids AND have you work two jobs might not sit well with you. Best you know this now!

In the end, it’s not impossible for two people with different views to come together and find common ground as far as finances are concerned. It can take compromise on both sides of the financial issues. One party can’t be forced or tricked into compromise either. If you feel that finances WILL be an issue then you should consider counseling or worse case, reconsider the marriage. The financial situation won’t be any better if you have to spend thousands dissolving a marriage.

How to Get the Best Performance and Most Use From Your Camera

Your camera is an essential part of your travel plans. It can have more uses than you ever thought it could have, especially when traveling. For example you can take pictures of maps when you find them as you move around so you can get back to them whenever in need. It can act as a mirror when there aren’t any available, can keep you company during your travel if you take pictures of your loved ones and pets before leaving, can help you out if you lose your luggage because your luggage probably looks like lots of other people’s luggage.

Furthermore, it can always help you recall where you’re staying as well as any nearby landmarks that you can even show your taxi driver. Snap photos of your favourite restaurants and clubs and later you can show someone where you’d like to go back to or where you’ve been. Also, you’re very likely to find flyers promoting events at local bars or pubs or club goings-on, so if you see one you like, be sure to take a snap to remember.

Like anything else you own, digital cameras need proper care in order to perform best and help you capture every moment. You don’t have to rely on pre-packaged lens cleaning kits to do the trick, you can make sure your camera stays clean by following some easy tips such as keeping your camera and lenses bagged when not in use which is kind of obvious. For cosmetic cleaning and to get the dust off the lens and outside of your camera you can use a light static-free microfiber cloth and pay attention to the focus ring as grit gets easily in there. Try not to use the edge of your T-shirt or napkin to clean the lens as it might get scratched accidentally. Try not to use your camera when there’s dusty weather and whenever changing lenses, try to pick a still environment. For more careful users, there’s also specialized digital camera lens cleaning fluid which is alcohol based and can be bought from digital camera stores.

The batteries you use in your camera are also considered a very important part of the job when it comes to taking great pictures. You can constantly face the problem of your camera batteries running out on you. Cut down on the battery use by keeping the playback mode minimal, prevent damage by using similar, don’t wait until your batteries are completely empty to switch them and remove the batteries from your camera when not in use so they don’t get worn out. One of the very famous brands that provide long lasting lithium batteries is Duracell. Duracell has long been known for it’s trusted batteries and their lithium batteries are no less popular than the rest of it’s great batteries. It’s wide range of operating temperatures and long shelf life just adds to the benefits more.
